King Liu Receives Order of the Rising Sun Decoration!
King Liu, founder of the Giant Global Group, was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun for his work in promoting cycling as a lifestyle and a way to boost local economies in both Taiwan and Japan. King received the prestigious award, which is symbolized by a ribbon and badge that depicts a rising sun, from Mikio Numata of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association.
The Order of the Rising Sun is awarded to individuals who have made distinguished achievements in international relations, the promotion of Japanese cultural advancements in their field, development in welfare, or preservation of the environment. King received the award following his efforts to promote cycling in Japan and help revitalize local economic development.
The 84-year-old founder of Giant is also president of the Cycling Life-Style Foundation, and has been devoted to promoting the usage of bicycles as a way to boost local economies in both Japan and Taiwan. He views this as a way to strengthen the friendship between the two nations.
Giant Japan was founded in 1989, and since then King has actively encouraged collaboration between Taiwan and Japan. He participated in rides through Shimanami Kaido and Lake Biwako, meeting with local governments along the way to discuss cycling tourism. Since then, both areas have become well-known cycling destinations for Taiwanese cyclists.
Beyond his work with Japan and Taiwan, King is also dedicated to promoting the cycling lifestyle around the world. In 1989, he founded the Cycling Life-Style Foundation. In 2012, he founded the public bike share system YouBike in cooperation with the Taipei City government. King once said YouBike is the most meaningful thing he has worked on his lifetime. Having recently retired as the Chairman of the Giant Global Group, he has devoted most of his time to YouBike and promoting cycling as a way to enjoy a healthy, environmentally friendly lifestyle.
